First Tumblr Theme
Yesterday I polished off and submitted my first Tumblr theme – Simple Things. It’s something that has been in the works (more or less) for a couple weeks. If I got a few minutes here or there I would work on it casually.
It was actually a lot of fun to work on and I will certainly be doing another sometime in the future. There were a lot of little things that went into getting it ready for submission, including making sure all the required functionality is there.
At least two or three days were spent playing around with the theme installed on a development site. This was where I added new posts, made customizations through the Tumblr interface, added pages, etc. There were definitely some bugs worked out, but all is well now.
After submitting the theme yesterday I was obsessively checking the submission page waiting for that little “Waiting for moderator review” to go away. It’s now gone and included in the Tumblr theme garden!
And if you click on that link to the theme garden you may notice at the bottom of that page is my submission! My theme was included in the “Featured” list even though, as of writing this, only 1 person is using the theme. Definitely not expected.
EDIT: After checking the theme page again just before submitting this post, the number of users has jumped to 34!
So thanks, Tumblr team for featuring my theme! There may be a post coming about the process of creating a theme, but for now I’ll just be in shock and let the excitement cool down a bit.
